This is Ian Garsed (L) and Paul Righetti (R), neighbours and co-founders of Honest Eggs Co. For a while, Paul had been reading about regenerative farming and the hencrible benefits of growing eggs to regenerate the soil naturally. He finally took the plunge in 2016 as happenstance gifted him a flock of hens as part of his daughter, Eve’s, school project. The hens began to lay delicious eggs which gradually gained popularity with family, friends and neighbours and eventually local businesses in Daylesford. With some encouragement from @wolfinkitchen of @lakehousedaylesford, Paul then hatched "Real Eggs" (our original name) and bought a chicken caravan - our first proper chicken shed! Shortly after, Ian Garsed jumped on board as he also holds the same beliefs in holistic farming. Together their mission has been to change egg farming for the better with better hen welfare, regeneration of the land, and building additional income for the local community. We are now 7 farming families strong from around Victoria (plus one in South Australia) who are passionate about nurturing and regenerating our land for future generations. Farming is incredibly tough due to the many uncontrollable external factors (ie. weather) and by adding chickens into the mix at our farms, it has created better viability for our children (the next generation of farmers) to stay on the land. Most farmers tend to work (and struggle) alone, so farming partnerships like Paul’s and Ian’s are truly unique. They not only get to bounce ideas off each other, but also divide and conquer aspects of the business for a better work-life balance. And when needed, cover for one another especially when someone takes some much needed R&R. Honest Eggs Co. is so much more than eggs, it's about the chooks, the land and soil, our regional farming community as well as YOU!
